Up Front Stand Up presents: The Miss Microphone Comedy Showcase. This showcase is a live taping for a documentary film currently in production that features dozens of local, regional, and nationally touring female comedians, including all of the women on this show! Through interviews and clips of live performance, the documentary film asks the questions: What does it take to be a comic from a lady’s point of view? Can we dispel the question, “Are women funny?” Local independent filmmaker and standup comedian Patsy B (Patricia Batdorf ) is producing this documentary as a companion to her first documentary, “Stand Up or Fall Down,” in which she gives an inside view of amateur stand up comedy.

This showcase features a collection of artists with vast perspectives, varied skills, and massive talent! Come out and support local live comedy, independent film-making, and join the audience to be part of the movie! This show will be a laugh riot!

By purchasing a ticket and attending this show, you consent to be photographed, filmed and/or otherwise recorded for the purposes of the documentary film in conjunction with the Miss Microphone Showcase.

Up Front Stand Up presents Kelly McInerney and Jon Durnell

Kelly McInerney is a Los Angeles-based writer, actress, host, and comedian who originally hails from the subjectively wonderful state of New Jersey. Her sketches have been featured on WhoHaha, Comedy Cake, and Funny or Die. In addition to online sketches, she regularly performs stand up all over the LA area as well as touring the throughout the country, crushing clubs like The Punchline, the Improv, and Comedy Works. She’s even toured throughout Mexico including Baja and Mexico City. She’s also been a guest on the wildly popular podcast Doug Loves Movies and sorta sibling video-cast Getting Doug with High. In addition to that she’s also been on Doug Stanhope’s podcast. Kelly brings a dark self deprecating, brutally honest humor that anyone in the world can relate to and laugh at least a little bit.

Jon Durnell grew up in the mean streets of a beautiful suburban community in Nashville, TN. After years of experience in Los Angeles, he is becoming one of the most known unknowns in the city. He has performed in colleges, coffeehouses, street corners, dive bars, theaters, comedy clubs, backyards, abandoned/condemned buildings and skateboard shops across the USA. He has amazing podcasts called IMDweed, Double Overtime and The Ricky Williams Trilogy.

Also featuring Kyle Doughty and Georgia Loper

The zit you had on the night of your first middle school dance can’t hold a candle to the stories you’ll hear at Puberty Problems. Join these comedians and community storytellers as they recount their most joyful and cringe-worthy memories related to their own deeply human experiences that they’ve kept private... until now.

The long awaited sequel to the Overbites Pictures and Troma Entertainment cult classic "Coons! Night of the Bandits of the Night" is finally here! "Killer Raccoons! 2! Dark Christmas in the Dark" is a send up of several bad action movie sequels, using plot elements from "Under Siege 2: Dark Territory," "Die Hard 2" and "Speed 2: Cruise Control."

On a cold Christmas Eve, former mild-mannered college student Casey Smallwood is released from prison after serving ten years for underage drinking. Eager to get out of town, he plans to meet his longtime penpal on a train to Washington, D.C., but after the holiday express enters the winter wilderness, it’s hijacked by an angry gang of domestic terrorists and highly-intelligent, government-trained raccoons! Not one to back down from a raccoon fight, Casey joins forces with a porter on the train to fight the terrorists and help bring down a top secret, raccoon-controlled, military laser satellite!

Don't miss this sneak-preview screening with live commentary from cast and crew of the film!

Bad Listener: A One-Mannequin Show

191029_BadListener.jpg

“Bad Listener” is a solo-performance theatrical comedy written, created, and performed by comedian Nickey Winkelman ...and one mannequin. This semi-autobiographical tale follows our main character (played by one mannequin) through personal triumphs and struggles while the world moves around her. On a journey to find a balance between self-care and self-absorption, she meets other characters along the way (all played by Nickey Winkelman) and must battle through human interaction in a society full of screens.

Nickey Winkelman is a stand-up comedian and comedy writer born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. While studying theatre at UCSB, Winkelman began her stand up career in 2004 at age nineteen. Today she works primarily at Up Front at Shadowbox Live as their event coordinator and as an emcee. She is the cohost of Tuesdays with Mak & Winks (along with Shadowbox Live head writer Jimmy Mak), the cohost of the trivia game show podcast The Quiz Box (along with magician Erik Tait), and one of the producers of Cbus Comedy Festival.

“Bad Listener” is Winkelman’s first “one-woman show,” which she has delightfully coined her “one-mannequin show.” In early 2019, Winkelman received an individual artist grant from GCAC to assist with the production of “Bad Listener” and is grateful to GCAC for their continued support of the arts community in Columbus.

Paige Polesnak is from Pittsburgh PA, and performs coast to coast. She has performed in the Whiskey Bear Comedy Festival, Charm City Comedy Festival, World Series of Comedy, and is a regular at the Burning Bridges Comedy Club. She provides a fresh perspective on everyday life as a millennial trying to have it all, while looking for more scrotum to mount on her bedroom wall.

Hayley Ellman is an improviser, sketch and stand-up comedian out of Atlanta, GA. She was inspired to start writing and performing stand-up, her first love, after watching the likes of Bill Cosby, Woody Allen, Louis CK and other talented perverts; she still hasn't figured out how to tell people who her biggest influences are anymore. The Atlanta Journal Constitution referred to her comedy as "cerebral and sardonic." She charms audiences with her balance of sincere, satirical, and silly.

ReachOUT: an LGBTQ+ standup comedy benefit show

190611.jpg

Tickets $7

We all know that Columbus, OH is a great place to live if you are LGBTQ+. It's mostly safe; many businesses and civic associations are owned, operated and staffed by LGBTQ+ community; hell, we even have openly LGBTQ+ elected leaders!  Of course, nothing really exemplifies Columbus's better qualities quite like our annual Pride festivals each June, where the community scramble to participate serves as an annual reminder that Cbus is pretty okay with the gay.

Most of Ohio isn't Columbus.

Many cities and small towns outside of Ohio's three "Big C's" still lack employment and housing protections for LGBTQ+ people. In some places, pervasive bigotry and a disconnect between community members allows for violence against members of the community to go unrecognized and unaddressed.  Indeed, just a forty minute drive from the edge of our 270 bubble is Springfield, OH, a small town where it is still entirely legal to fire a person for being LGBTQ+.

That's why we're holding ReachOUT: a standup comedy benefit show to raise funds for Springfield Pride's annual Pride Festival. If we ever want to perpetuate systemic change in how LGBTQ+ people are treated outside of our largest cities, we need to ReachOUT and support the members of our communities that are having these difficult conversations and fighting (and sometimes losing) battles on the ground.

Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Springfield Pride. Learn more about Springfield Pride on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/springfieldohiopride/

DESCRIPTION:

From the creators of The Quiz Box comes a new comedy game show where a panel of comedians tells the most outrageous lies about historical events. Four brave comedians with a limited education in history will each attempt to fool their competition into believing lies about history, while simultaneously tricking them into thinking historical facts are fallacies. Each comedian is tasked with rewriting a real event from history (anything from the building of the Great Wall to the sinking of the Titanic) into a hilarious tall tale. The catch? Hosts of the hit podcast Mormon and the Meth-Head bring their stand-up comedy and emotional baggage to Up Front in Columbus Ohio!

If the little angel and devil on your shoulders ever hung out without you, became best friends, and started their own podcast, it would probably sound a lot like Mormon and the Meth-Head. A former Mormon and a former Meth-Head come together to form an equally wholesome and horrific duo. Vulture calls them "Your typical pals who tour as stand-ups together, share a storied past of social isolation, and love each other in a 'You’re the best friend I’ve been looking for my whole life' way."

They are indeed an unlikely pair. They have led two completely different lives. While Aaron was stopping strangers on the streets of Milan to teach them about Joseph Smith, Jessa was teaching dudes how to keister meth in Arby's bathrooms across Portland. In their respective routines, they each tackle topics like love, sex, drugs, and alcohol, but with polar opposite perspectives. Audiences get to see their world through Aaron's naive, innocent eyes as well as through Jessa's bleary, bloodshot ones.

A teen mom-turned-meth-addict-turned comedian, Jessa Reed tells raw and candid stories about about her past and her new life as a homeschooling housewife trying to blend in with the normal people. Her honesty is shocking, inspirational and not for the faint of heart. Jessa has been seen at clubs and festivals around the country, and made her stunning television debut in 2018 on Comedy Central's "This Is Not Happening." Later that year, Epix aired an episode on her story on their late night stand-up series "Unprotected Sets."

Once adored by mothers everywhere, Aaron Woodall is a nice young man coming to grips with a dirty, cynical world. As he finds out that love isn't real, God is dead, and beer doesn't even taste very good, Aaron effervescently shares his disillusions with a sense of wide-eyed excitement. Aaron was one of Team Coco's Top Ten Comics To Watch at this year's New York Comedy Festival and his jokes have been seen on FOX, Hulu, Fusion, and Epix. His first special is streaming now on Dry Bar Comedy.
