Dick Valentine Solo Acoustic Show

191016_DV.jpg

A tender acoustic performance by Electric Six frontman Dick Valentine precedes the performance by the full band at The Basement on Oct. 16, the first such acoustic performance by the self-proclaimed “American Troubador” in the state of Ohio. Valentine performs stripped down versions of Electric Six songs as well as selections from his five solo records. Dick Valentine absorbs your tenderness throughout the performance and gives it back to you tenfold, like some sort of photosynthetic valve. He feeds on your tenderness like Vladimir Putin feeds on freedom. Your tenderness will soon be his, but his latest CD “Illuminati Bees” will soon be yours as you may buy it directly from him onstage in the middle of his set.

Save Wilma's Hips (Presented by Hashtag Comedy)

190626-save-wilmas-hips.jpg

Hey! Clay Vansickle here, from the Wednesday cast with Hashtag Comedy. My lovable, fat, goofy dog needs hip surgery, and I'm goin'-a-fund-raisin'. I have a wonderful Saint Bernard named Wilma- here's a picture of her dumb, foldy face! Wilma, whom I love dearly, was recently diagnosed with bilateral hip displaysia, which means that her femur bones are not properly attached to her hip sockets. This causes pain, arthritis, lameness, lethargy, and general difficulty enjoying normal puppy activities. Wilma's case is particularly severe.  We've been encouraged through consultations with Ohio State Vet. that surgery is Wilma's best option - they're recommending a total hip replacement, or THR. Seven out of every eight dogs diagnosed with bilateral hip displaysia can get by with having only one hip replaced- Wilma may need both. The surgery, under the steady hands of OSU's orthopedic surgeons, has a 95% success rate. Her surgery is scheduled for December 9th.

100% of the proceeds of this show will go towards the surgery for Wilma.

ReachOUT: an LGBTQ+ standup comedy benefit show

190611.jpg

Doors: 6:30 PM
Showtime: 8:00 PM
Tickets $7

We all know that Columbus, OH is a great place to live if you are LGBTQ+. It's mostly safe; many businesses and civic associations are owned, operated and staffed by LGBTQ+ community; hell, we even have openly LGBTQ+ elected leaders!  Of course, nothing really exemplifies Columbus's better qualities quite like our annual Pride festivals each June, where the community scramble to participate serves as an annual reminder that Cbus is pretty okay with the gay.

Most of Ohio isn't Columbus.

Many cities and small towns outside of Ohio's three "Big C's" still lack employment and housing protections for LGBTQ+ people. In some places, pervasive bigotry and a disconnect between community members allows for violence against members of the community to go unrecognized and unaddressed.  Indeed, just a forty minute drive from the edge of our 270 bubble is Springfield, OH, a small town where it is still entirely legal to fire a person for being LGBTQ+.

That's why we're holding ReachOUT: a standup comedy benefit show to raise funds for Springfield Pride's annual Pride Festival. If we ever want to perpetuate systemic change in how LGBTQ+ people are treated outside of our largest cities, we need to ReachOUT and support the members of our communities that are having these difficult conversations and fighting (and sometimes losing) battles on the ground.

Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Springfield Pride. Learn more about Springfield Pride on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/springfieldohiopride/

ReachOUT features comedians Pat Deering, Brooke Cartus, Angie Healey, Matt Loxley, Bianca Moore, Olivia Smith, Nickey Winkelman, and hosted by Mary Nolan
